Sod installation in the GTA is priced at about $2.80 per square foot for front lawns and $3.00 for back lawns, installed and cleaned up. That puts a typical 1,000 sq ft front lawn at $2,800–$3,000 and a 2,000 sq ft front-and-back at $5,600–$6,000, with a $1,300 project minimum.

Every price above is the installed price — it covers removing the old lawn, grading, fresh topsoil, fresh-cut sod and cleanup. It is not a materials-only number you add labour to later. Back lawns cost slightly more per square foot because access is tighter and everything moves by wheelbarrow. In the newer north end — Duffin Heights, Seaton, Brock Ridge — builders typically leave a thin skin of soil over compacted fill, so the original lawn thins out or never takes. We correct that with proper topsoil and grading before laying fresh sod, so the new lawn actually lasts.

On the newer east side — Bayview Northeast, Stronach, Hills of St Andrew — lawns sit on builder fill that needs proper topsoil and grading before they’ll establish. Parts of north Aurora edge toward the Oak Ridges Moraine, where soil is sandier and drains fast, so we adjust prep and watering guidance to suit.
